On Friday Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa returned two luxury vehicles Mercedes Sedan and Bullet Proof Toyota Land Cruiser and ordered to government to sell these expensive vehicles and spend the money on public transport.
SC Registrar sent the letter to the federal government cabinet secretary and Punjab chief secretary informing them about the Mercedes Benz, 2996 CC sedan purchased for Rs61 million in 2020 for the CJP. The letter stated that every judge of Apex court has been provided two vehicles as per the rules.
The letter stated that the Chief Justice of Pakistan Faez Isa has not used these two vehicles it further stated ‘this is an inappropriate splurge of scarce public resources to buy imported luxury vehicles for the use of constitutional and public officeholders’
“Therefore, these vehicles may be collected and auctioned and the money collected from the sale be spent on much-needed public transport,” said the letter.
Justice Faez Isa took oath as the 29th Chief Justice of Pakistan in September of this year after his predecessor Umar Ata Bandial got retired.
