Five Police Officers Died in Jeep Accident Near Toli Peer, Azad Kashmir

A tragic accident took place near Toli Peer, a well-known tourist destination in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), on Tuesday, May 28, 2025, when a police vehicle lost control and fell into a deep ravine. The crash claimed the lives of five police officers, leaving the entire region in shock and sorrow.

According to rescue teams and local police sources, the vehicle was carrying officers on duty when the driver apparently lost control while navigating a sharp turn on the steep and narrow road. The area around Toli Peer is known for its beautiful views but also for its risky mountain routes, especially during rainy or foggy weather.

According to Poonch Division Commissioner Masood-ur-Rehman, the police jeep was traveling from Haveli district to Rawalakot when it met with a tragic accident near a place called Cross, located between Lasdana and Toli Peer.

Reports say the vehicle suddenly went off the road and fell into a deep gorge. Sadly, three inspectors, one sub-inspector, and one constable died on the spot. Their bodies were later moved to CMH Rawalakot for official procedures.

The exact reason for the accident is still not known, and an investigation is underway.

Eyewitnesses said the police jeep slipped off the road and tumbled down hundreds of feet into a gorge. Rescue operations began immediately after the accident was reported. Locals, rescue officials, and the police worked together to recover the bodies and provide aid to the injured. Due to the difficult terrain and remote location, the rescue operation took several hours.

Police officials said an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that over-speeding or brake failure might have played a role, but this has not yet been confirmed.

This tragic incident has sparked calls for better road safety measures in the region. Many believe that the hilly roads of Azad Kashmir, especially in tourist-heavy areas like Toli Peer, need stronger protective railings, regular maintenance, and more safety signs to prevent such heartbreaking accidents.

AJK’s Prime Minister expressed deep sorrow over the incident and offered condolences to the families of the fallen officers. He also announced that the government will support the victims’ families and cover all medical expenses of the injured.

As the community mourns this painful loss, the incident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by our police and rescue teams in their daily duties—often in difficult and dangerous conditions.
